Question

When she tries to activate my unlocked UK iPhone using a Zim sim card my sister in law gets the message "The SIM card on this iPhone doesnt appear to be supported.  Only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone." Any ideas?

Region settings maybe? l once had my nokia n900 refusing to work giving me the sim card error thing. lt was unlocked and a UK version. ln the region settings, it have no Zimbabwe as one of the country it can operate.

l had to change the country settings to SA and chose Econet SA then, put it on dual band and it started working.

So since apple phones work in SA, why not try to set it for SA, it might help and put it to dual!

This means it's actually locked. She needs to jailbreak it using Redsn0w and then install Ultrasn0w from the Cydia installer.

I have also this problem with my 4S, I bought it in Germany and I'm trying now to activate it in Canada and there's not Jailbreak for 5.1 yet :/

I bought iPhone 4s unlocked form USA , and when i came back to Palestine , i used my SIM here and didnt work .. i got the same message : " "The SIM card on this iPhone doesnt appear to be supported.  Only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone."

I think your iPhone is not unlocked.Hence you need to unlock the mobile to make it compatible to work with other sim cards.I suggest you can get the permanent unlock for your iPhone by using the remote unlocking service from http://www.simpleunlocking.com/apple-iphone/rs16wp9/ by specifying the locked UK carrier.

I believe it is the region setting as I experienced the same problem wen I went to Zimbabwe with my iPhone 4 which I bought in apple and is unlocked I did not find a solution in Zimbabwe but I believe it is a region issue
