I am interested to know whether I can receive a Skype call using any local carrier (Telecel, Econet, NetOne) and not only on WiFi.

If so, which network would you recommend so that I can make and receive calls through Skype? Is this device specific or basically any phone that can receive calls through WiFi can also receive via mobile?

Are the networks giving us bandwidth speeds that are adequate to support such?

I know Econet recently announced that they now have 4G (aka LTE) but this is in spotted areas around the country.

yEs you can receive a skype call through mobile. Skype has international calling rates for all networks in Zimbabwe (about 21 cents per minute to all mobile networks). To receive a skype call you do not need any special kind of phone! Even the ancient land-line or nokia 5110 can receive calls.

Voice calls on Skype are better than video calls in most parts of the country. The video calls normally drag... but voice is a little bit better. I used Skype on Econet, Telecel, Netone and Africom. Econet delivers the best, Telecel and Netone follow closely but Africom lags even on voice. I'm not sure about the others..
