With the recent announcement (http://www.techzim.co.zw/2013/10/zimbabwe-number-portability-potraz-issues-notice-to-operators/) that Mobile Number Portability (the ability for one to leave their host network and join another, if you were interested to know what it is) is coming soon to Zimbabwe (2014 to be exact).

Are Zimbabweans ready for such a service? Are the mobile networks happy about this directive? Have they been taking us for a ride for far too long and the main reason why we don't join another mobile network carrier is because "everyone has my current number" excuse?

so one can migrate from one network without changing your core number. That will be great

This might be the challenge to both the network providers as well as to the consumer side. The average Zimbabwean has owns two SIM cards for two networks already.

With the availability of dual SIM handsets, there may be no real incentive among Zimbabweans to port their numbers, especially as the process to engage in MNP may be long-winded.
