Making predictions around technology developments is, and always has been, a profoundly challenging task. However, we do believe that some powerful trends, that are currently gaining momentum, will strongly influence our technology experience in 2023.

If we go back to 2003, the ‘IPification’ of everything was not yet envisaged. We did not expect telephones to cease to exist. We did not expect voice communications to become just one function that we can use on our preferred devices. We didn’t expect to be carrying powerful IP enabled computing devices in our pockets and handbags. We did not expect to see IP enabled devices being embedded in cars, in consumer good, and in buildings.

The ‘IPification’ of everything is forcing the convergence of ICT, as we know it today, with a whole host of industry specific processes. For example, we are starting to witness manufacturing automation processes converge with IT as IP enabled technology is built into manufacturing activities. This process is creating huge opportunities for innovation as organizations experiment with and test IP enabled technology.

As an investor these continuously  changing trends have to be thoroughly looked into. One might plan to invest in something now which might be useless tomorrow.

So what changes can you foresee for the next coming 10 years? Will we still have most of what we are seeing now? Apps like whatsapp, wechat, facebook and so forth,  will we still have those?

2014: A 1 Terabyte SD Memory Card
2015: The world’s 100% solar Powered City in Masdar City will be initially completed just outside of Abu Dhabi
2016: Space tourism will hit the mainstream
2017: Portable laser pens that can seal wounds
2018: Light Peak technology, a method of super-high-data-transfer, will enable more than 100 Gigabytes per second
2019: Web 3.0 –  It’s always difficult to tell just where we stand in terms of technological chronology. But if we assume that Web 1.0 was based only upon hyperlinks, and Web 2.0 is based on the social, person-to-person sharing of links, then Web 3.0 uses a combination of socially-sourced information, curated by a highly refined, personalize algorithm
2020: Crash-proof cars have been promised by Volvo, to be made possible by using radar, sonar, and driver alert systems. Considering automobile crashes kill over 30,000 people in the U.S. per year, this is definitely a welcome technology.

1) Zero-sized intelligence

Having zero-sized intelligence in computing means packing a whole lot of brains in a tiny, tiny package. Computer companies encourage forward-thinking creativity, and some, such as Intel, even have futurists on board to predict where technology is headed.
Space exploration has taken some hits in the 21st century, with cuts to the U.S. and other international space program budgets.

2) Neotohacking

Neuroscientists are finding ways to read people's minds with machines, and although this has been in the works for decades, real progress is being made by researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, and elsewhere. Translating electrical activity from the brain by means of decoding brainwaves is one way to help sufferers of dementia, for example, who have complications with neurotransmitters relaying thoughts into comprehensible speech or holding thoughts long enough to get them out verbally before they're forgotten.

3) Quantum control

Picture a tiny bit of a thing on an already miniscule computer chip. Something microscopic with the power to think like a computer without the need of complex circuitry and capable of being moved by light or sound: That is quantum technology simplified.

4) Store all memories and knowledge in your hard drive

5) Install computers into your blood stream
