Firmware updates Improves battery life
Microsoft launched a firmware update for the Surface Pro 2 not long after it was released. It claimed that the update will allow the Marvell Wi-Fi chip inside to achieve even lower power states which in turn resulted in improved overall battery life. It is also told that AnandTech has recently put the firmware update to the test and found the improvements to be of significant.
From the battery life tests it was found that the firmware update was good for nearly 25% more battery life and an improvement of 16% was also realized in the video playback test, with the updated machine lasting 7.73 hours versus just 6.65 hours without the update.
Microsoft is also offering owners of the Surface Pro 2 a way to manually download a firmware and driver pack for the Windows 8.1 device. The file has now made an appearance on the Microsoft Download site.
