I bought laptop 2 years ago, model Compaq 420, and now my battery is dead, but I am still using it but putting it on charger continuously, my questions are:

1. Will this affect my laptop and yes I believe I need to get a new battery but how much will it cost here in Zimbabwe?

2. Is it possible to repair it?

it all depends with what the problem is e.g. if the battery terminals have been bent or broken, you can have them fitted back into place again & thats repairing.

You only turn you laptop into a desktop. You said you bought it "2 years ago," its time to get another computer. It have lived its lifetime. next are funny problems inside of it. dispose of it and save yourself more problems

A laptop battery can be repaired but it's not worth the effort considering the fact that batteries are now affordable. The process requires you to cut open the battery and replace the cells with healthy ones with similar capacity and rating. This only works if the battery monitoring electronics inside the battery arent fried. I did it for an old Toshiba laptop and the battery worked for about 18 months, though the battery looked ugly from cutting!
