I have someone with BlackBerry Curve 8520, the Whatsapp application is not working. What is the process to get it to kick in? There is a detailed option I saw but its nerd stuff. The user is on Telecel.

Did the phone have whatsapp already? If it didnt then its just a matter of going somewhere where there is wifi and downloading it using the blackberry browser.
It should work)
The telecel thing shouldnt be a problem coz whatsapp only cares about an internet connection, and not where its from!

But what is the WIFI distribution in Zimbabwe like? Does Telecel have that many hotspots? Can it not be downloaded via GPRS/EDGE/3G? I have been to the Telecel website and there is nothing showing their WIFI hotspots.
The phone had Whatsapp but it was registered using MTN number so it needed to be deleted and reinstalled. Thanks for the reply MaN.

I know ZOL would have a few hotspots in harare and bulawayo. Wifi hotspots are popping up everywhere now-a-days! Places like hotels and big-ish cafe's will have wifi available.
You will have great difficulty downloading whatsapp over 3g/edge because the website needs to recognise your phone and if you're using opera mini you are likely to get a "please use default brower..." message. So wifi is the best option.

Whatsapp as recently released their official app for Blackberry. You simply need to download and install that on your device. It would work on any network, phone just need internet connect and Wifi facility.

...settings is just a simple process of updating the apn on the tcp ip section of settings but i can tweak your blackberry so much that it will download with your data line instead of wifi....about your whatsapp just do a security wipe or download a new version of whatsap....for some stupid reason some apps that come preinstalled eg whatsapp and opera esp if its coming from sa..wont just work unless u do a security wipe..trust me on this one..i work with bbs everyday...
