What are Biller codes?

Since the introduction of Ecocash and Telecash, we have had of Biller codes, what are they, and what are they used for?

In lay terms is just a unique number that allows an institution to be identified on the banking/online/mobile payments system. For example; DSTV in Zimbabwe is uniquely identified as 22108 when using ecocash. In effect no other institution will be allocated this code.

What are Biller codes?
