how do I become group admin of existing whatsapp group?

How do I ensure that there is no muting going on? When I look at Mute, it always shows what seemingly is a default setting of 8 hours. Whatapp with that?

From WhatsApp themselves:

"If you are the group admin and you leave the group, WhatsApp will randomly assign admin status to a remaining group participant. Only that person can add you back to the group."
