I have an old Compaq Evo D310 that this morning refused to start. I looked up the key board LED blink code and it turned out the system failed to detect the RAM. No biggie, just popped out the modules (which were still very secure), put them back in and it was sorted. But what caused it? The machine hasn't been tinkered with in years and its hardly ever moved. Is there a maintenance regimen I should have been following or is this one of the many mysteries of IT? Just curious!

Could have been one of the mysteries or someone bumped the computer.

Hardware failure is inevitable, try not to get too worked up. You would have to determine what exactly went wrong or try your best to get the defective parts replaced by the manufacturer if necessary.
