So this came as a shocker. I'd thought Google Drive as an app was mature enough to be on one of the most used OSs.. anyone knows why it isn't available for Linux yet?

Is there like some clash of principles or something keeping them away?

According to this https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/drive/j_SmC6bMsEo/xQcdWcyBpBcJ and this discussion https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/drive/7oh183FGJfM it seems to have been 'in development' for close to 2 years. I guess for google, Linux isn't a big enough fish to fry right now. But in case you missed it, this alternative, Grive, seems to get the job done http://www.lbreda.com/grive/start
