Question

Besides trusting the supplier how else can one distinguish an original from a generic IT accessory , say an HP laptop Power packs, toners,laptop batteries .  With me right now are two power packs but still I cant differentiate them?

The big problem is that  all big brands do not manufacture their own hardware. In you example of hp, they shop around and assemble from different suppliers, then they stick there own logo

So l would say what can really be authentic is only there logo, anything else can not truly be theirs. Take again like all the iPad, they are all manufactured in China using factories built and run by Chinese but the brand is American.

lts stil debatable but thus how l see it.

All ways try to buy well known brands such as intel, amp, dell, hp, lg to name a few.

I think the question is how do you know it's fake if the accessory is labeled Intel, AMP, Dell, HP, LG etc...

I guess one of the ways of atleast being guided by checking if one gadget is genuine is to go to their website and check using the serial number and product/model of the product and this will show you things like warranty cover etc. Other than that it is to contact the respective manufacturers to verify. Otherwise consumers will be in for a fix by these unscrupulous ICT retailers who are now mushrooming in Zimbabwe and going unchecked and being celebrated by our own Ministry Govt officials VP and MICT minister.

If you're really concerned a supplier might be selling you un-original stuff just ask them where they get their supplies and get documentation for it.

Usually the upstream supplier is easier to check up on. In addition you can check the manufacturer's (HP in this case) distribution channel and make sure you get from recommended dealers.

Big companies usually have websites that show each model up close so that you can distinguish an OG from a fake yourself, if that's not enough you can always take down the serial or model number of the product you want to buy and query it with the manufacturer t their website, they will usually confirm for you if its one of their products. In countries that strongly implement copyright laws you will never find the OG logo on a fake, look at the branding carefully i.e Nokio instead of Nokia!
