@techspy007, thanks again for taking the time to respond! While I appreciate it, you seem to have once again made some assumptions that are a little misguided, so let me clarify some points for you.
1. you dont have a single bitcoin, how would ransonware be activated on your ip?
Perhaps you write advanced ransomware that checks the financial disposition of individual victims before activating, but alas, KeRanger is not as discriminating and complicated (at least not yet). It sits in your system for 3 days and then does its business, asking for money only after it has encrypted your files. And yes, I don't have a singe bitcoin to my name, but like I wrote, I had a previous version of Transmission so I never got infected (turned down the update).
2. why are you pirating? pirating is a crime you know. and it is imoral. the one and only Mac ransomware came via bit-torent client, u were torrenting software ana movies, your post should get you arrested. you are a criminal.
You do know there is nothing inherently illegal about having a BitTorrent client installed or using BitTorrent protocols right? Whats illegal is sharing copyrighted material you do not own. So while Transmission can be used in the manner you are used to, it can also be used for legit stuff like
https://goo.gl/CAFsyF (so much great talent here),
https://goo.gl/x1aF8F and
http://goo.gl/hf7t6a . Now, as for the legality of making unsubstantiated and slanderous accusations on the other hand...
3. backup. backup backup. i am a programer, i keep 2 local backups plus a 3rd cloud backup of my important code and files, always.
Great tip, I too back up but not quite to your extent.
4. unless if you run Avira cloud scan, avira could not have detected the ransomware. aint no Mac user churning data by running cloud virus scanning. the cost outweighs the benefit.
I use Avira Free Antivirus to supplement Apple's built in Xprotect. Windows habits die hard!
5. please stop posting lies.
Please, point these lies out!
Now just as a side note, I truly appreciate your diligence on this platform. In fact, your prompt answers made up a good part of the activity on this site for a while. But there is this adversarial tone in a lot of them that undermines the value of your contributions and the user experience of those who count on this site for timely, relevant community sourced answers and discussions. Of the 5 points you raised, only 2 were directly relevant. The first was factually misinformed, the second based on erroneous assumptions irrelevant to the questions asked and the fifth, I would like to think is due to an error in comprehension but judging by the trend, falls under that adversarial banner I mentioned. Please try to dial that down a little, and sorry for the big words.
