Does Skype work on mobiles?

I have a basic Econet simcard and I'm wondering if Skype works on Econet to make free calls to another skype account in the U.K. I have a samsung GS2 and I also would like to find out if you can also make video calls to someone in the U.K who has skype on their laptop. Thank you

yes you can do all those things, but frings does it better and cheaper!

Even more interesting is the availability of gtalk on that mobile and it can do even better quality than both skype and fring.

the person you ar calling jus need gmail account, lm not sure on the charges coz l havent had chance to test that side yet.

Econet data might not be the best option to use for Skype calls, I would use a wireless connection (better connectivity, stability at reasonable prices) giving better quality of service.

Yes, Skype on Android does voice and video calls over both 3G and wifi. The Galaxy SII is certified for video calling (by Skype) so expect everything to work as advertised.

Thanks everyone. One more thing. Is there a huge difference between Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich?? Someone told me Samsung @Joina can upgrade the Galaxy SII for $25. Is this reasonable or I can be able to do it on my own??? And how easy is it to upgrade by yourself??

thus not a reasonable charge! Why are they charging for an upgrade which the software(ics) is available for free by samsung, greedy lots!
The file is to big for bundles, around 400Mb, so if you have access to wifi, jus fully charge your phone, turn on the auto update and relax. It can take a while.

Or you can download the file to pc and use kier, l havnt used this method before so you might need to do some reading and backup yo data bfore yu start

My brother sent me this phone when he was upgrading. i was using a blackberry 9780 before and i never had internet charges problems on econet but when i got this galaxy phone if i juice up $1 of airtime then its gone in no time at all. does anyone have this same problem. its a brilliant phone but its eating up money for internet at a fast rate. i have deleted many apps that keep updating themselves. Or could it be that becoz of the bigger screen eats up more data than a blackberry screen??

im thinking of moving to telecel coz i hear they have cheaper data bundles

change the settings so that it can only update when its connected to wifi. Also, download and use opera mini for mobile it saves a lot on data. Remove all the apps which constently needs internet to work like weather report or ones with auto live update.

Changing to telecel is not going to help you much. I have a nokia n900 l have abondoned using bcoz of that. I even tried telecel with opera mini bt the dollar doesnt last. I have lots of the things going in the background now l just disable internet.

im already using opera but if i juice a $1 its finished within a few hours just on whatsapp and basic browsing without downloading anything. for those who have this phone or who have the HTC's or sony ericson how do you manage your airtime???
