if it was an app installed on the device, then no it won't

if it was a inbuilt service on the device that required some kind of initial setup to get working, then no it won't

if you have the IMEI number and phone number to hand you can work with the police and the mobile networks and they can do some basic tracking to locate the phone but this does tend to offer a lower success rate i'm afraid,

Take your IMEI to Econet as Anthony suggests. Get a police report so you can show it to econet. Find someone at econet who can help speed up the process. I had my phone recovered this way.
Good luck
