l believe that most of the usb modems in zim are based on the aspect of it connecting directing to a usb port on the pc for installation of required software for basic 802.1q and 802.1x switching and authentication purposes.

From my experience in Zim, the implementation of 802.1x authentication is very basic.

Looking at your router specifications, the mention of VPN is not a simple process, there is so many little pieces which are required for a basic VPN set-up which l doubt our ISP offers.

It requires a lot of pre-settings from your ISP, which l suggest you take it to Africom and ask if they have settings to help you out.
3G routers are available. They come with a usb port into which the mode can be connected. i configure these all the time.

Africom should have provided you with all the required information to use with there dongle. l had not had the opportunity to test Africom but from  my experience with PowerTel, here is how l configured my router to work with PowerTel dongle. All the information was exactly what l got from them:

Dial number 777

APN--- l left it blank

Username---- 111

Password ---- 111

Authentication ----- PAP (l got this from router logs)
Thanks Macdonald. This helped me alot. I didn't know the password was the same as the username, and didn't know the APN, glad you can leave it blank. I'm in the UK at the moment and I managed to help my mum set her PowerTel dongle up on a router remotely thanks to you. David (from Chinhoyi)
