The problem occurs randomly, when I make a call directly from my call records list. I tap a number which starts with +27xxxxxxxxx for example, but the phone dials the number as +0027xxxxxxxxx and then this causes the call not to go through: instead I get a message saying "sorry, the number you have dialed is not available on the Econet network."

Has anybody else ever experienced this on android or even non android devices or is it just my particular handset? When it happens I usually select the option to edit before call, delete the zeros manually in the dialer screen and then it dials fine, but its still annoying that it doesn't happen right the first time.

Either use + or 00 only. For example use +26377..... or 0026377.... just like that!

Just dont use the + sign. Replace + with 00 and dial.
