when it works, its really good. you can even do video calling on it. But when there is constant power cuts, its really a war to even get the modem connected. Sometimes even when its connected you dont get internet!

Hang on there, l have a secret weapon lm going to experiment with coupled with ideas. Watch this space, if it works, which l hope it will, l will let you know in 2 weeks time.

By the way what OS are you going to use?  If its Vista then l bet you can even fry eggs on the modem because it really becomes hot!

Ok,   l have been using my secret weapon for the past week. lts a 3G pocket  wireless router which takes every 3G dongles except the Econet, its even future proof coz it takes 4G as well. It gives me 4-6hrs of battery life that gives me opportunity to move around the city and places.

The good thing with the router is that it needs no drivers, it have a Ethernet RJ45 where you can plug your PC or through wireless which takes about 32 devices at the same time. lt will cost about $60, look them at www.alibaba.com.

l tested it around and the connection speed was not good. l asked Powertel people and they said Malborough, where l live, Westgate and some parts of Malberein where not good, blackspots which they expect to be fixed by the year end.  l also asked about the Mutare connection and was told it was still being commissioned, thats why speeds are still low. We are  still being connected through that unreliable Botswana link.

So for the time being, its a hit and miss situation

thanx macd...do you really trust these powertel people. their network is very bad.i stay in mabelreign (lose to meyrick park) and i struggle to get a reasonable connection at home. i only get to (at times) get a better connection wen at work..i.e southerton industrial area.. so wats the purpose of this router thingy other than for multiple connections through one route?did you buy yours through alibaba or can i actually get the device from around town.

Trusting PowerTel people, yes to some extend. There major draw back is that they lack specialist knowledge of a Service provider. l bought the router from alibaba.com but not from Zimbabwe. lf your area have poor reception, then this router is useless to be honesty, its eliminates the issue of drivers and overheating modems
