Online event ticket sales. Your friends must be rocks if you don't get event invites every now and then. Validation? Use a tool like
http://hangtime.com to see how much events are on in your network of friends. Then on LinkedIn there's quite some activity in that space. The challenge with online RSVPs is that 5000 people say they're coming and only 50 show up, so a way for people to buy tickets online an locally would allow for smarter decisions. I have a few notes on the idea if you're so inclined and I'll no-frills-attached hand them to ya. I'm a techie, so i'm mostly interested in 100% code products which is why I didn't venture into that lucrative market when I had the chance.
I also think there's an opportunity for something like a local Shopify (
http://shopify.com). A lot of Zimbos are always in and out of the country (cross-borders or whatever you want to label them). I think if people got a platform where they can sell the stuff they hoard online. As a start you can sway off scam and fraud scares by having an escrow for both money and goods. You get money from customer, you tell seller you have his cash and want to see the product, product comes, you validate and send it to the customer, and dispatch the payment to the seller. Problem solved, some of it.
There's more where those came from, but you;d have to lose the anonymous badge first.
Also, start a business. Not a startup.
