The play store also has free apps of whatever cool app you are looking for. Just go to the "Top Free "section.

But something to note is that most developers will list their apps in a store where they think that they will get the most downloads. Based on this, and Android having passed the BILLIONTH activation recently, and Google Play comes standard with Android, I would highly recommend you to get your apps from their store.

What makes you say it's expensive? Perhaps it's the service fee on your Visa card? I'm sure carrier billing (where you are billed by you mobile network operator, e.g Telecel) would lessen the financial burden.
