I have installed Kali linux(Next generation of Backtrack) side by side on an hp laptop. After a lot of fiddling managed to hav it on disk and installed the the bootloader to mbr.

Bt during booting, there is no option for dual boot, its going straight into windows

l found easy solution:

1. Wipe out windows 8 completely

2. Make 2 partitions

3. Install Kali linux on first partition as a penetration and security audit OS

4. Install Ubuntu on second partition as a everyday OS to use.

A clean dual boot l say.

i found out that on HP machines you have to manually select the bootloader at bootup (press esc then F9 when powering on). only then can you access the linux bootloader... or you could try this : http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2013/03/12/dual-boot-windows-8-and-ubuntu-12-04-in-uefi-mode/
